Powers

I was talking with Wendelina and we came upon the subject of the powers of cats. I believe that cats are born with a number of powers. The decision of if these are super powers or not is left to the reader.

So cats start out with a few basic powers. You've got "look cute", "get hair on things", "sleep", and "heal".

Cute covers a lot. You've got the basic kitten cuteness that gets them adopted. This doesn't always stay with a cat their whole life. Sometimes it morphs into a cuteness that stops them from getting kicked off the bed when they take all of it, and sometimes it just stays an adorable cuteness that gets them food or cuddles all the time.

Get hair on things is a skill that varies from cat to cat. Aurora for example has only a middling good skill at this. She gets fur on everything, but she doesn't have to be too picky, since she is a calico and no matter what she lays on her fun will show up soms. Lily on the other hand is almost pure white. Her "get hair on things" skill is excellent. She has hair that shows up very well, and she is quite good at picking colors that will show her white hair the best. Also I hear she is stubborn about putting hair on things.

The sleep skill is best seen in cats when you're supposed to get up and just as you're finally motivate to do so the cat plops down on your lap or, if you're lying in bed, on your chest. After that point there is really no point in trying to get up so, under the cat's influence, you just pass out. It's fairly common to all cats, and I haven't seen a whole lot of variation. It can also show up as with the cat settling on your feet or behind your knees just before you pass out for the night.

Cat healing takes a number of forms. Most cats have the basic healing. They lay on you while you're sick, between the warmth, the purring, and their innate skill you feel better. Some cats are better at this than others. And some cats are only good at predicting the end of health.

As cats get older they also gain the "comfort" ability. They hop up on your lap and purr at you when you're feeling bad. Or you come home from a long day at work and they rush to the door to greet you and get pets.

Dog Walking

When I took him for a walk this morning Balou had a chance to meet two groups of new people.

The first was a an older couple who live down the street. There are two houses and they both do crazy seasonal decorations all year round. They just put their Mother's day stuff away and I think are in full swing with the Memorial day decorations. Allegedly the two houses have some crazy rivalry going and there is some sort of restraining order too.

Anyway they complimented Balou from across the street and I asked if they wanted to meet him. They said yes so Balou and I ran across the street to them. Balou was quite happy to sniff them but was not interested in getting pets. He was much more interested in sniffing their yard.

Then Balou and I walked around the block towards home. We ran into a group of 4 men, I think they were some form of disabled since a few of them had canes. Again Balou was not interested in getting petted, he just wanted to sniff them a bit. He was wasn't precisely shy, just not interested in the pets.

I'm not completely surprised about Balou's behavior. "The American Kennel Club says he [the Rottweiler] is basically a calm, confident and courageous dog with a self-assured aloofness that does not lend itself to immediate and indiscriminate friendships." It is just nice to know that he really is our dog. The very first time we met him he tried to climb a fence to get to Shari and me, and did slurpie us as much as he could. It's nice to see that while he is interested and friendly with new people he is still our dog.

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children

When I first got into video games the best game that my sister and I had was Final Fantasy VII. Because it was such a long game we made a deal that either of us could play it, but we had to save cut scenes and plot stuff for when both of us were there. I love that game. I definitely give it credit for actually getting me to see that video games were fun.

Anyway about a two and a half years ago I found out that there was a movie that followed on to it: Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. So I bought it, because, well I had to have it. But I didn't make any time to watch it. If I had time and remembered the other people I was with didn't want to watch it. Or I felt uncomfortable exposing something that I loved so much to potential ridicule. Well I finally worked up the courage to watch it with my ESO tonight.

The movie was great! I forgot what a supreme badass Tifa is. :D And I forgot how much more of a badass Cloud is and how at the same time he is so emo. It's quite an amusing contrast, the emo badass. I suppose that a better characterization would be that Cloud has emotional baggage and feels bad for his actions in the past, but a quick one word summary is emo. :D

Anyway I'm really happy that I got to watch FF7. Now I wanna watch it again. And I wanna play Final Fantasy: Crisis Core.

On Blueberry Muffins

Location: Coffee shop on the way to work.

My ESO: And I'd like a blueberry muffin.
Barrista: Classic or Lowfat banana blueberry?
My ESO: I don't see anything other than plain blueberry.
(I point out the lowfat muffin.)
My ESO: EEEwww! That looks gross! People eat that?
Barrista: It's one of our top sellers...
